Wellness Wonders: How Watermelons and AI are Transforming Gardens and Health This August

Welcome to the August edition of the AmpleHarvest.org newsletter! As we embrace the end of summer, we also celebrate National Wellness Month, a perfect time to focus on improving our health and well-being. This month, we highlight the importance of eating fresh, nutritious food to enhance our overall wellness.

August also brings us National Watermelon Day, a delightful reminder of the joys of fresh produce. Watermelons are not only delicious but also packed with vitamins and hydration, making them a fantastic addition to our diets. At AmpleHarvest.org, we believe in the power of fresh, locally-sourced food to nourish our bodies and communities. Get expert tips for growing watermelons in your own spring and summer garden.

Join us this month as we explore ways to eat healthier, support local farmers, and reduce food waste. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our health and the environment. Happy reading and happy eating!

Success!

We love this post from EngAGE “A garden success story at Patton Home Senior Apartments in Portland: Planning for summer began back in January. Now the garden beds will fill the food pantry, and the gardeners are already planning their winter crop! #ChangingAging #HealthyAging #PositiveAging #CommunityGardens

Using AI for Good

Gary Oppenheimer spoke about using AI for Good at the Ai4 conference on August 13.

The panel enlightened attendees on the transformative power of artificial intelligence as a force for positive change. Industry luminaries and social innovators discussed how AI was being harnessed to tackle pressing global challenges, such as combating climate change and improving healthcare accessibility.

Gary, an early pioneer in “micro computers” and electronic mail, has been exploring for some time, how an information based program like AmpleHarvest.org can take advantage of this next wave. Right now, AmpleHarvest.org is using AI to more rapidly extend its reach to more communities, improve the quality of its educational outreach, and will  shortly keep its mission critical food pantry dataset verified monthly rather than yearly. AI opens the door for nonprofits like AmpleHarvest.org to help assure that a $1 donation generates far more than $1 of impact.

Food banks are continuing to see large numbers of people needing food assistance. If you've planted a garden, think about growing more to feed more. If you can't grow a garden, share AmpleHarvest.org on social media, volunteer, or donate. Every act of kindness counts.
