Celebrating Community, Heritage & Healthy Harvests

February is a month of love, reflection, and nourishment — and at AmpleHarvest.org, it’s a powerful reminder that fresh food connects us all.

As we honor Black History Month, celebrate Valentine’s Day, and recognize several food-related national holidays, we’re reminded that growing and sharing food is an act of care — for our families, our neighbors, and our communities.

Looking Ahead to Spring Planting

As seed catalogs arrive and garden plans take shape, we invite you to plant with purpose. Consider growing an extra tomato plant, an additional row of greens, or a few more zucchini this year — specifically to donate.  Check out Bonnie Plant’s “Grow More Feed More” for more information.

Every pound of fresh produce you share helps:

  • Increase nutrition options at food pantries

  • Reduce food waste

  • Strengthen community connections

Together, we are turning backyard abundance into nationwide impact.

Thank You

To our gardeners, food pantry partners, and supporters: thank you for making fresh food accessible to neighbors in need. Your generosity transforms gardens into gateways of hope.

Let’s make February a month of reflection, compassion, and action.

With gratitude,
The AmpleHarvest.org Team 🌿

February Food Holidays to Celebrate

February is full of delicious inspiration:

  • February is National Grapefruit Month
An excellent source of vitamin C

  • February 22 – National Cook a Sweet Potato Day
Packed with nutrients and a pantry favorite.

  • February 27 – National Strawberry Day
A bright preview of spring planting season ahead.

These food holidays highlight something important: fresh ingredients matter. And when gardeners share their harvests, those ingredients reach families who truly need them.

Honoring Black History Month

This month, we celebrate the contributions of Black farmers, gardeners, chefs, food justice leaders, and community organizers who have shaped our nation’s food system.

From generations of agricultural knowledge to leadership in today’s food justice movement, Black communities have long championed access to fresh, culturally meaningful food.

You can honor Black History Month by:

  • Supporting Black-led farms and food initiatives in your area

  • Learning about the history of Black agriculture in America

  • Donating fresh produce from your garden to help ensure equitable food access

Growing food is powerful. Sharing it is transformational.

Food pantries are continuing to see large numbers of people needing food assistance. If you've planted a garden, think about growing more to feed more. If you can't grow a garden, share AmpleHarvest.org on social media, volunteer, or donate. Every act of kindness counts.
