January

Welcome to the first newsletter for the new year! We hope you've had a great start to 2024 and are looking forward to all the gardening possibilities ahead.

With the new year comes planning for your vegetable garden. One of the best ways to start planning is by assessing last year's garden and identifying any areas for improvement. Did your plants struggle with pests or disease? Did you have trouble with certain types of vegetables? Use these experiences to inform your garden plan for the upcoming season. And tell us about how your garden did!

Another important aspect of garden planning is considering your space and what you want to grow. Are you limited to container gardening, or do you have ample space for a large garden? Make a list of what you want to grow and ensure you have the right conditions for each plant.

We’ll be back next month with more inspiration and tips!

Gary Oppenheimer is presenting at the Agroecology Summit on January 18. You’re sure to be energized by the wealth of information shared on how residents and communities can increase their climate impact by growing and sourcing healthy food locally and equitably, guided by and in tune with local ecology. More info and registering to see it online for free is at https://theconservationfoundation.org/event/2024-environmental-summit/

Food banks are continuing to see large numbers of people needing food assistance. If you've planted a garden, think about growing more to feed more. If you can't grow a garden, share AmpleHarvest.org on social media, volunteer, or donate. Every act of kindness counts.
