Embrace the New Year: Gardening Goals and Citrus Celebrations Await!

Happy New Year from all of us at AmpleHarvest.org!

As we step into January, we’re reminded that hunger doesn’t take a winter break—and neither does the power of community. This month is all about new beginnings, reflection, and planning ahead so we can continue sharing fresh, nourishing food with our neighbors in need.

If you live in a warm climate (USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 8, 9, and 10) and have citrus trees, January is a great time to share the harvest. Lemons, oranges, and grapefruit are often abundant this time of year, and food pantries welcome fresh citrus when it is in season. Citrus is rich in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants that support immune health and overall nutrition.

🌱 New Year, Full Plates

A new year brings new opportunities to make a difference. Whether you’re a gardener, food pantry volunteer, or advocate, your actions matter.

Make a Giving Resolution:
Will you find a pantry and donate a surplus harvest this year? Share AmpleHarvest.org with a friend? Help a local food pantry get registered? Small commitments can lead to full plates.

❄️ Winter Food Pantry Spotlight

Winter is one of the toughest seasons for food pantries. Donations often slow down while demand rises.

Throughout winter, we’re shining a light on food pantries serving their communities during the coldest months—and reminding everyone that even stored or preserved produce can help.

➡️ Visit AmpleHarvest.org to find a local food pantry.

🌻 Grow for Good: Planning Ahead

January is planning season! Now is the time to:

  • Sketch your garden layout

  • Choose high-yield, high-demand crops

  • Think about how much you can share

Food pantries can also get a head start by registering now, so they’re ready when the growing season begins.

🧡 Thank You

We’re deeply grateful for everyone who supports AmpleHarvest.org—gardeners, food pantries, volunteers, and champions of fresh food access. Together, we’re turning surplus into sustenance.

Here’s to a year of growing, sharing, and nourishing communities.

Warmly,
The AmpleHarvest.org Team
